I am a 23-year-old Belgian-Irish student who has just started a 4 year PhD at Imperial College London in the research area "The Molecular and Cellular Basis of Infection” with a focus on viruses.

I grew up a little all over the world having been born in South Africa and having lived in Swaziland, Poland, Bosnia, Belgium, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Timor Leste, and Singapore where I completed my International Baccalaureate at the United World College. After completing my IB in 2014, I moved to Oxford to attend a 4 year-integrated Master’s course in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. After graduating from Oxford in the summer of 2018, I moved to Munich Germany for a virology internship at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In February 2019 I began tutoring full time before the start of my PhD in October 2019.

I am an extremely active person and enjoy a variety of sports. I used to sail competitively internationally in the Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial Classes, and still sail during the holidays. Since being at university my love for rugby has also grown. However given my susceptibility to injury and clumsiness, I now only stick to Touch Rugby. I also boulder/rock climb as often as I can.

I have experience teaching and tutoring students aged 10-19 and I am comfortable with the iGCSE, GCSE, IB, A-Level, and EB (European Baccalaureate) syllabuses. I have in-depth experience tutoring both the iGCSE and IB in Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Geography. My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. I graduated from the University of Oxford with a Masters degree in Biochemistry in June 2018 and a bachelor degree in June 2017. I have over 5 years of tutoring experience in Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Geography. I tutored part time during my undergraduate years at university, and I tutored full time post-graduation from February 2019-September 2019. During my time in Munich, I built up an international tutoring network of over 15 full time students. 1) high-school students undergoing VWO or an IB curriculum, who are having problems following math at school or university,

Need help with math or science? As a 33-year-old civil engineer, I'm happy to help! I'll learn at your own pace, using plenty of examples to illustrate the material. I have years of experience teaching both simple and complex subjects.

The lessons run as follows. First of all, together we look for the student's biggest stumbling blocks. These can be related to the subject matter as well as to the study method. From there, I continue to work at the pace of the student and encourage them to ask as many questions as possible. I also give them tips and tricks, and improve their working methods where necessary. During the lesson I give many examples to make the subject matter more interesting and we solve exercises together. Once the student has mastered the exercises from the lesson, I give some more challenging exercises to also test on the deeper understanding of the subject matter. In this way I try to optimally prepare the student for his / her test or exam.

However, learning should also be enjoyable. That is why I always strive for a good relationship with the student through a spontaneous and positive approach. I am also very patient. All this lowers the barrier to ask questions and improves the student's learning process.

As a teacher (engineer with a certificate of pedagogical competence), I have been teaching mathematics, physics, chemistry and natural sciences in secondary education for 25 years.
I am an independent teacher in secondary occupation and recognized by the Flemish Community.

Students preparing for the examination board often experience problems in the subjects of mathematics, chemistry or physics. Through intensive guidance I can greatly increase the chances of success. I have a lot of experience with the online course of "Inzicht", Geogebra, interpreting subject sheets, ... The tutoring can take place both on weekdays and in the weekend.

Students with dyscalculia are remedied by practicing the subject matter, using tips, mnemonics and a lot of patience. Experience shows that the way of mathematical thinking in dyscalculia is different and therefore requires a more structured, step-by-step approach.
