I am Thijs (30) an experienced drummer and musician, with a wide range of musical interests. Studying jazz drums under the wings of Lander Gyselinck at the KASK/Conservatory in Ghent. In addition, I have followed masterclasses and lessons from/with Joey Baron (US), Kendrick Scott (US), Corey Fonville (US) and Stéphane Galland (BE). I am also active in various bands/groups. My lessons, depending on the level, focus on both the fundamental building blocks of drumming and music as a whole. These building blocks together with the student's interests form the curriculum, so that it meets the student's wishes as best as possible. I also teach music theory/music theory. Some aspects of this are also offered during drum lessons. In the end, it's you who will enjoy it the most, so that's what I'm focusing on! I teach everything related to electronic music, both theoretically and practically: DJing, digital and analog production, audio recording, mixing, compositing, etc. My classes are tailored to each individual's needs and expectations. In addition to video lessons, I can also host classes directly in my studio to practice directly on my equipment (mixing desk, vinyl turntables, synthesizer, modular, drum machine, effects machine, piano, etc.). Hi I'm a Dutch drummer based in Brussels since 2015 and I have been teaching drums since 12 years. From September 2023 I will be teaching at the Conservatory of Maastricht in the Netherlands. I would be very happy to share my passion and knowledge of drums and music with you. I'm open to work with an individual approach to the taste of every student. Like that I can make a learning plan for each student, always adapting towards the goals we set together. Do you want to learn the drums? I can offer lessons in different styles (pop, rock, jazz, world music, marching band,...) and at different levels. During my teenage years, I was intensely involved in marching bands, which gave me a solid technical background. Later, I went on to study Jazz Drums in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Stéphane Galland.

In these lessons you will learn how to put music on paper yourself. We do this through composing, harmonizing and arranging. We work progressively on your skills and fine-tuning, so that you can work independently over time.

Have you always been stimulated by jazz and improvisation? Does it tickle to make music together and learn to improvise? Then I would like to help you on your way in the fascinating world of jazz and improvised music, both within the traditional forms based on the so-called 'standards' and by means of exercises for 'free improvisation'. Beginners as well as advanced musicians are welcome!
