My academic field is the education of gifted students. I also conduct out-of-school support activities with these students and provide counseling to parents. I am based in Haarlem, the Netherlands but I also offer online classes all over the world. I believe that any kind of effective learning is an adventure that begins with a personal bond and ends with autonomy. Peter Drucker says, "Learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change, and the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn." In this age, every paradigm is changing very fast, so the teacher must help students find out how they learn best. I was also co-owner of my own translation/text agency Dutch/English and English/Dutch. I continued my translation work from various English-speaking countries. I lived and worked in Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia, where I learned to speak English like the locals. During my long time abroad I followed various studies, including in the field of music, linguistics and animals (especially horses). After many years abroad, I returned to the Netherlands in 2017 and now enjoy teaching English (online). Because I have lived in various English-speaking countries for almost 30 years, my English is exceptionally good. I have learned a bit of culture from each country and of course also some local pronunciation, and when I cheerfully greet you with a G'day mate! then that might be the first Australian expression you hear. Hello, my name is Lucie and I would be delighted to help you learn English, either from scratch or to improve your knowledge. I love getting my students to speak since I think practice is the secret to learning a language and improving your knowledge. I always structure my classes around real-life themes (how to introduce yourself, how to make an appointment, how to shop, how to go to the doctor, talk at work, etc). We will see grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation together. If you are intermediate, we will also do courses on texts. We will put both grammar and vocabulary into practice.
