I will be working towards your goals with you. Whether that is to get good grades, get better at something in your personal time or get better to help someone around you.

I'm a native English speaker from the USA, living in Rotterdam. In my job as an engineer, I regularly help colleagues with their written and spoken English. I'm available to help you practice English on a regular basis on weeknights. I mainly work with students and professionals in technical fields who are interested in refining their English writing and speaking skills. I also speak fluent Dutch, as well as some Spanish and French, so I'm familiar with common English mistakes and understand what's causing them. Examples of lessons: - Reviewing written documents together, and identifying recurring errors (work emails, proposals, reports, etc.). - General conversation practice, and presentation practice. I will listen, take notes, and provide feedback on pronunciation and grammar, while we discuss various topics. - Practice speaking exercises in preparation for IELTS exams. - Assistance with job applications (reviewing English CVs and cover letters). I do not teach beginners courses in English, as I have a full-time job and this would require longer/more frequent lessons, and I do not have the training/background required to teach basic English. If you already know the language, but you cannot pronounce it very well and you want others to understand you, I can teach you the correct accent of that language. It may seem difficult to you at first, but we will practice together via the webcam and you will see that with my help it will only become easier for you. You will pronounce the language well. Practice makes perfect.

Prepare yourself thoroughly for the International English Language Testing System to obtain the English language proficiency required for higher education and global migration. There are 2 levels; Academic and General. Each level has 4 sections: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. You will learn and practice them all.

I was also co-owner of my own translation/text agency Dutch/English and English/Dutch. I continued my translation work from various English-speaking countries. I lived and worked in Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia, where I learned to speak English like the locals. During my long time abroad I followed various studies, including in the field of music, linguistics and animals (especially horses). After many years abroad, I returned to the Netherlands in 2017 and now enjoy teaching English (online). Because I have lived in various English-speaking countries for almost 30 years, my English is exceptionally good. I have learned a bit of culture from each country and of course also some local pronunciation, and when I cheerfully greet you with a G'day mate! then that might be the first Australian expression you hear. But of course you first learn 'proper English', so that everyone can understand you!

During the university period I gave private lessons to erasmus students in Italy and now I give individual Italian lessons in Amsterdam and online. I use a book that I integrate with different materials. Conversation is very important, but so is listening and understanding a text. Hello, my name is Lucie and I would be delighted to help you learn English, either from scratch or to improve your knowledge. I love getting my students to speak since I think practice is the secret to learning a language and improving your knowledge. I always structure my classes around real-life themes (how to introduce yourself, how to make an appointment, how to shop, how to go to the doctor, talk at work, etc). We will see grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation together. If you are intermediate, we will also do courses on texts. We will put both grammar and vocabulary into practice.
